  2. Already I'm all over this and I'm barely into Ch. 1. Understanding God's call in the second sense; the specific call, without it being a job or career is a new concept for me. Charlene shared that the original (1400's) meaning of the word "vocation" is "a summons". And Becce's comment about the specific call being an underlying theme that plays itself out in seasons of our lives was profound for me. Our station might change, but our call stays the same. Still trying to wrap my head around it.
The third calling reminds me of Marni's definitions of her daily or seasonal assignments. The tyranny of the urgent makes us lose sight of the concept of vocation or calling. "Yet, in vocation is where I find my joy" (Becce).
    Good stuff!

  3. Hi everyone out there. Thursday evening a group of us met at FHPC. We all left excited about what this summer will be for us as we read this book together. We are going to start slow in order to let folks get their books. If you have your book, go ahead and read the Introduction and Chapter 1.

As we are getting organized, let's also get acquainted. If you would like, please give us a quick introduction to yourself (what you want us to know :)), and a short bit on why this whole topic interests you.

I'll go first. I live here in Friday Harbor and have for almost 3 years. I love it and love the people here who have become very dear to me. I read this book for the first time as part of a Spiritual Formation program I am participating in as part of my study to become a Spiritual Director. I have always been very "busy" for God, but in this new season of my life, I want to move into what I do through the doorway of who I am. This idea of "vocation" helps me do that. So enough from me...anyone else?

  4. I am retired and am really searching for what I am called to do with the rest of my life. I have recently moved from Nevada back to the land of my family, Oklahoma. Even though I was away for 18 years I now realize that my true calling is "something" in the lush green Oklahoma hills or the vast wheat country of western Oklahoma. I am looking forward to searching with other Christian women.

  5. Welcome Betty. Glad to have you part of the group. We have begun by looking at the INtroduction and the 1st Chapter. Take a look at the questions posted last week regarding those sections of the book.
